Well, all of you may already know - Don has a new talent that he excels at. Not only can he build a house; he cooks and bakes. He makes homemade bread and lots of yummy stuff all the time now. Now if he only cleaned :) -- I jokingly told that to Don awhile ago and he said, "What do you want me to do --- everything???" I said, "yes, sure, why not?"
Anyways, a few weeks ago we had friends from the deaf branch over for dinner. We had three couples come up. Don decided to do Thai food. Very delicious and authentic - he went to these Asian stores and bought all this "weird" stuff. While we were eating our delicious food up here, we also had a snow storm - in the middle of April -. This has been one crazy year - it's all that "global warming". Luckily everyone was able to get out alright.
Well, we also have been trying to take Great Grandma Coates out to a German Restuarant for over a year. With everyone's busy schedule, it seemed like it was never going to happen. So we decided to have a German Restaurant at our home for her. She was very kind, and told Don that the food was better than any restaurant that she had been to. Well, it actually was so delicious. Don made homemade Bread, German Red Cabbage Salad, German Potatoe Salad, Sour Crout, 3 different German Sausages (weisswurst & bratwurst), and Don's Pride (which was a little bit like Oma's pride - a dish we ate at a German Restaurant in New Braunfels - it's spinach, cheese, spices, and other stuff in a pie crust - very delicious too). Don also made apple streusel (without the streussel since we didn't have the right ingredients - it ended up more like an apple crunch).
We had a very enjoyable evening. Melanie and Emma were the waitresses. They were so excited and made all the menus - we even used German words on the menus. Just as Don's parents & grandma were arriving, I told the girls that waitresses were pretty and to go make themselves pretty. They ran up the stairs excitedly and changed into some dresses, did their own hair, & I think Mel even put make up on -she loves to wear it and always tries to sneak it on :) Courtney's not in the picture since she was off doing a dress rehearsal for the play that we went to see later that evening (next post).
