We did it! We went on all the bus tours, saw everything on the City Pass, & saw most everything that we wanted to see by Friday night. Saturday we planned on spending the whole day with Ryan & Dana.
First we went to see Ryan's office. Very Nice! It has a great view of the city. We also enjoyed free hot chocolate there. Audrey and Mia were very busy "working" in his office filling pads of paper with "business notes". I should have taken a picture of them, they were so cute working so hard. Actually, I should have taken more pictures of Ryan & Dana & family, (I don't know what I was thinking - so I had to borrow a few :).
After visiting his office, we went on a Free Wall Street Walking Tour. The guide was great & provide us with lots of information & facts. After the tour, we decided to get some lunch. We all settled on Indian Food (except Ryan). It was quite delicious, especially this weird drink I had. I can't even remember what it was - some kind of Indian drink, but it was yummy!
After lunch we needed to buy a few souvenirs for the kids. We bought everything really quickly except for some postcards. Courtney had told Don that she wanted a lot of postcards. We had seen postcards every where while we were walking around during the week. They were very cheap - like 10 for $1.00. So Ryan & Dana went back to their apartment and we went to get some postcards. We thought it would take 15 minutes or so, boy were we wrong. We couldn't find the postcards anywhere near Ryan & Dana's home. So we decided to take the subway into Time Square (since we were sure we had seen some up north). We got on the subway & got to Time Square. We walked around a bit and FINALLY found some. But now we were short on time. We got on the subway to go back to their home. We had to make one transfer. So we got off and waited for the right train. And we waited and waited. After about 30 minutes or so of waiting we were beginning to panic. We finally found a worker and he told us that subway was closed today. So we thought, "what do we do??" So we walked up the stairs and started running back to their house. We were really short on time. It was after 4pm and we were suppose to leave their home by four. What was suppose to take 15 or so minutes to buy some postcards took about 2-3 hours! :O Well, we figured we would be extremely late if we just walked back to their apt., so we figured we needed to catch a Taxi. Well, we saw thousands of Taxi's all week, but of course when we desperately needed one, we couldn't find one. So we continued to walk in the direction to their house and after about 15 or so minutes we found a taxi. He took us the last five to ten blocks. So now we can say, "We've been in an official New York City Yellow Taxi Cab". Anyway, Dana called to see what was keeping us and to remind us that we better leave. We got back to their place a little before 5pm & quickly gathered everything and rushed out the door. We were very disappointed our little postcard expedition took so long as we were hoping to be able to spend more time with Ryan & Dana that afternoon. Ryan thought maybe we should take a Taxi since we were late - our flight left at 7pm. We talked to the doorman of their apartment and he told us there was too much traffic, it would be better to take the express subway to JFK. So we ran to the subway station. Just as we got there, the subway pulled in. We got on, but I was so paranoid that we were on the wrong one (since we had made that mistake several times while we were there.) A nice man kept reassuring me that this was indeed the express subway to JFK. The express is so much faster than the local. We got to JFK about 5:50ish. The lines weren't too long there, which is lucky for us since the worker told us sometime you can wait over an hour just to check in your bags. Everything went smoothly at the airport, & we got on the plane. Once we were on, & getting ready to take off, we found out the plane had a missing or broken seal of some sort. So they had to replace it while we waited 2 - 3 hours sitting in the plane. How ironic, all that rushing and the plane didn't even leave on time. But the doors were closed, so we couldn't have got on if we were late. Luckily for us, we had cable t.v. to watch on the plane while we waited. Since we hardly ever watch T.V. and only have 2 channels to choose from, cable T.V. was a real treat. I even got a kick from watching infomercials.
We had a wonderful visit in New York. There was plenty to do and plenty to see, more than we had thought. We wish we could have spent longer there. It was very enjoyable. The people there were very friendly and always helping us find the right place. It is amazing all that they have crammed into such a small island. Wow! I don't think I would ever want to live there (permanetly), but it was a fun place to visit. It was the first time for both Don & I. Thanks again to Ryan and Dana for their hospitality!
