Well, we had one more full day in NYC, so we wanted to make the best of it & see every last thing on our bus tours & all the museums & the cruise on our city pass & everything else.
We had planned to go on the harbor cruise first thing - the first one started at 10am. (They only had three a day 10am, 1pm, & 4pm). Then after that, we were going to go to the Museums and the last bus tour which was a Brooklyn tour. We left Ryan & Dana's apartment at 9am - that way we would have plenty of time to get to the cruise (now that we knew which pier it departed from). We went to the subway, got on & relaxed a bit, chatted, and waited for our stop. We traveled quite a ways when Don realized we got on the right subway line, but got on the wrong direction. So instead of taking us to the West side of the island, it took us underneath the river & we were somewhere in Brooklyn. By the time we got off and headed back to Manhattan, we realized we wouldn't be able to make it to the Harbor Cruise by 10am. So we decided to take the Brooklyn bus tour which picked us up on the east side of Manhattan since we were closer to that. We made it for the 10:30 tour. The tour guide told us this tour was about an hour and a half. We thought - "that's perfect, then we get back at 12pm & we have an hour to get to the harbor cruise so we can make it by 1pm." The tour guide was very friendly and talkative and interesting - which was good, because we got caught in Brooklyn traffic for an hour. So instead of taking an hour and a half, the tour took two and a half hours and we got done at 1pm, (needless to say, we couldn't make it for 1pm cruise). We still enjoyed seeing the sites in Brooklyn.
Then we hopped on a subway and took it to Times Square. We ate lunch (the only day we stopped for lunch - all the other days we were running around trying to see everything) at Carnegie Deli. We ordered a Pastrami & Corn beef sandwich - and shared it. It was huge and delicious!! There was a big line at the deli, but lucky for us - I told Don, we don't have time to wait, let's just do take out. When we went in to do take out, I told the waitress we were going to do take out because we didn't have enough time to wait 45 minutes in line. She asked us if we wanted to eat there. I said, "Well, we do, but we don't have time to wait in the line." Then she said, "Don't worry, I'll find you a table right now." And she did. I'm sure if all the people in line knew what we did, they wouldn't appreciate us "cutters".
Then, we ran off to the Museum of Modern Art. We spent about an hour and a half there. Modern Art is always, um... how should I say this... interesting. I minored in Art at BYU - so I know all about Art philosophy, etc, but some art pieces just don't look like they took much talent to create. However, now we can say we've been to MoMa.
After we left MoMa, we ran/jogged nonstop all the way to the Harbor Cruise - about 20-30 minutes away and just barely made it for the 4pm departure - whew! The harbor cruise was very relaxing. We had a great tour guide and enjoyed seeing all the New York sites from the water. (Unfortunately, I left my umbrella on the boat. The only day I brought it with me. I always manage to loose something on a vacation - I lost my phone in Texas, my watch in California, & now my umbrella :( Grrr!
We finished the cruise and then ran & hopped on the Subway to see the Guggenheim Museum. The architecture of that building is beautiful, but there really wasn't much art to see inside. We spent about 20-30 minutes there and saw everything. I think the art they had on display changes, it is done by a feature artist. Anyways, if we had pay full price for this museum, I think it would have been a waste of our money. But now we can at least say that we have been to the famous Guggenheim Museum.
After we left, we walked through Central Park for about an hour. It is a beautiful park. It is amazing how peaceful it is there, even though it is in the middle of such a big noisy city. Then we caught a bus and took it to Times Square and met Dana for dinner.
We wanted to try New York Pizza since that is suppose to be the best pizza. Don asked our Bus Tour Guide where the best place to get Pizza was. He recommend this restaurant. Don googled the restaurant and it had good reviews, so we decided to try it. Well it was actually a hole in the wall. Now sometimes "holes in the wall" can be actually good (like the Chinese Place we went to), however this place didn't have much selections for toppings and it was only average Pizza, nothing special. Oh Well! So then we decided to go "dessert hopping". On the way to dessert we stopped by to see the famous restaurant on Seinfeld. Then, Dana took us to Pinkberry for some frozen yogurt. It was quite delicious!! Then we went to this chocolate restaurant called Max Brenner's. Everything on the menu is chocolate, (at least I think so). It is really a popular spot so there was a bit of a wait. The dessert there were delicious - I really didn't have anything to fancy though - Dana could have made it for me at her home- waffles with strawberries, whipped cream & chocolate. I was just in the mood for something not too sweet. Don had an Eskimo dessert, which is a fancy way to call an ice cream cone that you dip into chocolate with these little chocolate candy. Dana had the fancy dessert - some yummy chocolate cake with chocolate sauce in the middle. We had a fun time visiting with Dana and then we headed back to their home for a well needed rest.
