Emma had party with her friends on Sept 13th. She wanted a Tinkerbell party, but also wanted to invite all the kids from her primary class. I told her since there would be boys coming Tinkerbell would be too girly for them. So we just did a "happy birthday" theme. We played a doughnut game (where the kids eat a doughnut hanging from a string without using their hands). We played Duck Duck Goose, Hot Potato, Red Light - Green Light, Balloon Games, had a Pinyata, etc. All the kids had a fun time - this was Emma's first friend birthday party - so she was thrilled to have her very own party this year.
The next day (Sunday) Grandma/pa Coates came up to celebrate again with us. She picked BBQ - hamburgers for her menu. I even tried to be creative again and made her a flower cake. It actually turned out much better than my train that I made for Dayton's birthday. I've learned that you not only need to cut out the cake while it is frozen but you also need to frost it frozen. It comes out so much better with less crumbling of the cake in the warm humid weather we are having. (We're loving having such a warm September this year!!) Even though she didn't have a Tinkerbell Party - she did request Tinkerbell gifts this year & got a bunch of Tinkerbell stuff & also a cool Barbie lap top computer (for kids)- she loves playing the games on it. Courtney made her a really neat doll house out of paper and Great Grandma Coates gave her a child's plate (this was the plate that she ate from when she was a little girl) What a treasured heirloom that is :)
