All the kids started school the day after Labor Day! Melanie (2nd) & Courtney (4th) are going to school at Lacamas Heights this year (that's where they went the last 3 1/2 months last year). They tell me they really like their teachers. I am homeschooling Emma in Kindergarten this year. Dayton is going to a preschool to work on his speech 3 times a week. The first day of school was kind of crazy. First of all, I slept through my alarm & woke up late. So it was a mad rush to get out of the house on time. We managed to leave on time, and I drove all the kids to school. I wanted to attend Dayton's first day school (the 2.5 hrs that it is) with him. But with schools starting at different times, I had to drop him off first and then drop off Courtney & Melanie & meet their teachers and then go back to Dayton's school to be with him. Not really a complicated deal - Emma was going to go to work with Don that day. However, because of the mad rush to get out the door, I accidentally took Emma's car seat with me. No biggie I thought, I'll just call Don & tell him to meet me at one of the schools. Well, unfortunately I didn't realize the night before that I didn't plug in my new cell phone correctly and now my battery was almost dead. I was able to briefly call & talk to Don at home to let him know I had the car seat and then he told me to call him when I would know which school I'd be at when he left. Well a while later he left & then my phone battery when totally dead - so he wouldn't know where or when to meet me. I couldn't call his cell phone from the school phone because we have Portland cell phones which are long distance from the schools... Anyways - I was biting my nails off trying to figure out how I was going to contact him. Luckily, I was able to find a good friend at the school who was dropping her kids off & she lent me her cell phone & I was able to call Don - he met me at the school picked up the car went on his way. That was not the way I imagined the first day of school would go - I wanted it to be all organized & peaceful instead of Crazy!
I did manage to bring my camera & snap a few shots of the girls before they went into school.
This is really not Dayton's first day - but second day to school and first day on the bus! He felt like such a big boy getting on the preschool bus.
