School's Out!

The last day of school was June 17th. The girls had a half day. The day before that, they had a field day. I volunteered at the field day. The girls seemed excited to see me there. Parents were in charge of different games that the kids came around and played. I was in charge of a cup stacking game. I have never heard or seen it before. But you try to stack cups up different ways & see how fast you can do it. It looked so fun, I even tried it when there were no kids at my booth. It is kind of a crazy game, but really addicting to see if you can get faster and faster. Here is a video from a you-tube video so you can see what I am talking about. (I know it hard to believe - but I actually couldn't do it as fast as the guy in the video :) j/k)

Melanie & her teacher, Mrs Pruitt

Both girls really loved school & they both had really good & caring teachers.
I had all these plans for doing summer school at home with the girls - It was not going to be just "work" but some fun stuff - art projects, music, and reading together Little House on the Prairie and American girl books, & some math & reading on their own too (so far - I've been busy working outside in the yard & doing other projects, & we haven't done anything - hopefully I can get myself organized so we can do it together this last month and a half). They start school the day after Labor Day.
Emma is going to do homeschool kindergarten with me this coming year. Her birthday is in Sept. - so it is just past the deadline. I don't mind, I like to teach her reading skills one-on-one so she can really be a good reader. I'll probably homeschool Emma for 2 more years (K & 1st) and then put her in school when she is in first grade (so she'll be a bit ahead).
Dayton is doing preschool for speech during the summer. (I would love to have a break from driving to preschool & speech this summer - but they are a year round program.) He will continue until he is 3 (August 20th)- then we will switch to speech therapy with Camas School District. Some people have told me that since he is just speech only - that in Camas district they don't preschool for speech, just speech therapy. So he might only be doing speech therapy next year. He just loves his preschool class and loves playing with all the toys in speech.
