We had heard that we got 15+ inches of snow at our house the day after Christmas. But, we thought it would all be melted. However, we heard we got another 4 inches on the Sunday before we came too. So Don's parents picked us up from the airport (with their car & van) & drove us home. (Luckily we were all able to make it out together with no layovers-- it was great!! We didn't even expect to make it out on the plane all together, we thought for sure we would have to split up). We left sunny Phoenix at 70 degrees (but it wasn't that warm the week we were down there - just on the day were leaving) and arrived in rainy Portland at 37 degrees. Anyway, they picked us up, & we thought there wouldn't be any problem with snow. There was no snow in Portland, Vancouver or Camas at all. But because we are about 1000 feet higher than Portland, we get the snow. Our private road is not plowed like the county roads are, so the biggest problem when it snows, is getting from our house to our mailbox (about 1/4 of a mile or so). Well, mom & dad were able to take us 1/2 way up on our street or else they would get stuck. Then Don hiked the rest of the way to our home, got his Pathfinder with four wheel drive (Yay! that the transmission on that is fixed/replaced -- he drove it probably 3 or so months with no reverse), & then came out to haul us & our junk home. Luckily he made it in two trips & then helped his Dad get his van turned around. Thanks to Mom & Dad for picking us up & driving us home with all that snow. The kids weren't really able to play much in the snow because it has been raining constantly too. The snow is melting now, so it should be safe for everyone to come up this Sunday to have a Coates' Merry belated Christmas celebration. Well, Thursday & Friday have been lazy days. Don went down to Portland for Dad's surgery Thursday. We're glad that everything went well. But the rest of that day & today we have been relaxing and watching movies... once Monday hits, it's back to the rat race (well hopefully, I get my car tomorrow or the kids can't go to school on Monday). Well, that is it for my monthly blogathon, tomorrow I should actually do some work instead of sitting around watching movies & playing on the computer :)
