Thanksgiving & Audrey's Birthday

Well, we got home from California & it was back to long sleeves & jackets & rain. We got back home Monday about 2 -3am. I tried to stay awake the whole time to keep Don company while he drove at night, but I was pretty much a zombie who was 1/2 asleep. The kids had school Monday morning, so I pulled myself out of bed at 8 so I could get them to school at 9. I tried to go back to sleep after I had dropped them off at school, but couldn't. Mel had a Thanksgiving Play she was in that afternoon, so we had to be back to the school by 12:30. She was the narrator for their class play. She did a great job. We got home about 3 & then I spent the rest of the day trying to get all unpacked & organized. Tuesday we did homeschool in the morning & then went to a play in the afternoon -- Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat. The kids sang the song last year at Christmas time in Tucson -- so it was good to actually see the play the songs came from. Then the kids went to gymnastics in the evening. Courtney is practicing with the Level 4 Team this year. They asked her to compete, the coach told me she was learning level 4 & level 5 routines & doing really good, they even told us that we wouldn't have to go on the Sunday meets -- we could just do the Saturday ones. It would be kind of fun for her to compete with her team, but with us trying to get our house finished & up for sale this spring -- her meets would take up most Saturdays from Jan. - April & that's just one too many things to add to our already busy schedules... so she is just practicing with them this year, maybe in the future when life is not so crazy & we're not trying to move across the country she can compete if she wants to. Anyways, she practices three days a week about 2.5 - 3 hrs./day so that keeps me busy enough. Luckily it is a big gym so the other girls can take ballet & gymnastics at the same time her team practices & then I am able to do errands & go to the YMCA and run while she practices. I have missed running, I can't wait until we move to Texas & I can run outside in sunny warm weather instead on a treadmill. Anyway, I found out Tuesday that we were doing Thanksgiving at our house, so I crammed in a trip the grocery store & bought all the stuff for it. Wednesday I was able to get home & try to get all of our laundry done. Thursday, we spent most of the day getting Thanksgiving dinner ready & cleaning. It is nice that I have a husband who likes to cook, so he did all the cooking of the turkey & the mashed potatoes & I did the pies, rolls, salads, stuffing, etc. Don's parents were the only ones who came over, so it was the smallest Thanksgiving we have experienced, but we all had a nice time. I got kind of crazy & made 6 pies and huge amounts of each dish, we probably had enough food to feed about 20 - 30 people (so we are still eating left overs).

Saturday, we went down to Portland to the Baghdad theatre with Don's parents & Teresa, Stuart & Audrey. It's an old theatre built in 1928 that is a few blocks away from our old home near Hawthorne. Proceeds from the movie were to benefit a local charity group. We saw "The Christmas Story," it's a cute, funny movie about a boy's Christmas in the 1940's. Each row of seats in the theater has a table in front of it -- so you can eat pizza & popcorn & drinks during the movie. So we all enjoyed pizza while we watched the movie. After the movie, we went over to Grandma & Grandpa Coates' home & had ice cream & cake & little birthday party for Audrey.

Today, we went to church & I got a new calling while we were out of town. I am now the Relief Society pianist. It's a good calling for me as it will help me practice the piano more & I get to go be with the adults now... after almost four yrs of primary- I enjoyed it, but I am ready for a change.

This next weekend we'll be putting up our Christmas tree & decorations - which is always a fun thing to do. I can't believe it is almost December. The year goes by too fast!!

This is my blog weekend, my house is a total mess, there are piles clothes needing to be ironed & laundry to do, our bills aren't paid yet, and my kids have been neglected all weekend -- but at least I am caught up on my web page now... OK maybe I am exaggerating a bit (but not much).

The Baghdad Theater. You can barely see the tables since it so dark. Because it is an old theater it had all the classic molding, & kind of looks like a theme park theater.

Audrey's 10th birthday. Blowing out her candles.

Dayton really enjoyed the chocolate cake. If he looks messy now, you should have seen him when he was finished.
