Melanie was baptized on April 11, 2009. We are so proud of her decision to be baptized. Brother Ken Nielson presided and conducted. I played the piano and my mom (far away grandma), led the music. The opening song was "When I am Baptized", and the opening prayer was offered by Grandma Broderick
Grandma Coates (close grandma) gave the Baptismal talk and based it upon the acronym TAKE. It is a way of remembering the covenants we make at the time of our baptism. T. Take upon you His name. A. Always remember Him. K. Keep His Commandments. And E. Endure to the end. It was a very good talk.
Courtney, Emma, and Melanie sang beautifully "When Jesus Christ was Baptized".
Don and Melanie entered the waters of baptism and the kids all sat on the floor close to the font to get a good view. Faraway grandma played the interlude music while we changed.
Then Lori gave a wonderful talk on the Holy Ghost.
That was followed by confirmation and the Gift of the Holy Ghost by Don, Grandpa Coates and several friends from the ward who were there with us.
Brother Nielson welcomed Mel into the Ward and then Courtney gave the closing prayer. Great Grandma Coates had been invited to give the closing prayer but at the last minute was unable to join with us.The family that came to Melanie's Baptism. Lori and Andrew drove all the way from American Fork, Utah. Grandma & Grandpa Coates came from Portland. Grandma Broderick (far away grandma) flew in from Tucson, Arizona. Teresa and Audrey drove up from Portland (sadly Stuart had an unexpected babysitting job he got roped into at the last minute so he wasn't able to come). Great Grandma Coates wasn't feeling well and her doctor advised her not to travel any where so she wasn't able to come.
