Varioius Activities in May

Field trip to the Goat Farm
These photos are from a field trip Emma, Dayton, & I took to a goat farm with a homeschooling group. It is located right across the street from us (about a 15 minute walk), which is a good thing since Dayton had crawled into the car while I was resting that morning and turned the Emergency Flashers on which caused the car batteries to go dead. We had a bad connection to the battery - so it would go dead really easy, Don fixed that when he came home that night, but we had no car for the day - so it was a good thing the field trip was close by & a good thing it was a nice sunny day (not a rainy one). The next day it totally rained & rained - so we were really lucky!

After we arrived, while we waited for everyone to get there - we were able to pet the goats. Dayton loved that.

First we milked a goat. Emma was first to volunteer. The owners of the farm told Emma that she did such a good job that she should come over every morning and help her milk the goats. She knew we lived across the street from her too. Emma took her seriously, the next morning she was already for me to drive her to the goat farm, so she could help milk the goats.

(The very patient goat - who let all the kids milk her)

Next we went over to the Chicken Coop

Then, we went to the goat barn and fed the goats saltine crackers (which they loved) - It's a treat for them - they were all jumping on the gate to be fed.

Then we went over to the beehives and learned more about honey bees (sorry no picture)

Then we went over to where the baby goats were and watch them feed the babies and then got to pet the cute little baby goats.

Then we went to the sheep barn and got to pet a sheep and see all the sheep graze. Sheep are shy and not as friendly to strangers as goats are - so they preferred to keep their distance from all the kids.

Lastly, we learned how they take the wool and make yarn and got to watch the owner spin some yarn and then the kids were able to make candles from beeswax. Emma & Dayton had a fabulous time there. Melanie & Courtney were jealous they had to go to regular school instead of coming on the home-schooling field trip with us.

Preschool Olympics
These photos are from a Olympics they had at Dayton's Preschool. The Special Olympics put it on, but it was for all the kids at the school. Emma & I went there to watch, and they asked her if she wanted to participate too. She was delighted. They both received gold medals (all the kids did), & they were thrilled. Dayton wore his medal for nearly a week (no joke- he loved it).

2nd Grade Tea Party
This is a photo from Melanie's 2nd grade Tea Party. They presented their books that they wrote to their parents.

Family Fun Run
These photos are from Melanie & Courtney's school family fun run. Courtney & Melanie were so busy running, that I didn't get any photos of them.

First of all- Dayton is too cool in his sunglasses!
Secondly, I love the picture of goat being milked. There's just something in her eyes that shows she's a mother. Maybe it's that "I do it out of love" look.
And lastly, I heard that boys get into everything... killing the car battery is just one more example! :) Maybe #5 being a girl will be a relief!
